Los Amigos Emprendedores Group's story

The Community Bank, “Los Amigos Emprendedores” (The Entrepreneurial Friends), is made up of 25 members who work in various trades and professions, including: fruit sales, flower sales, vegetable sales, home accessories, fairs and markets, and other services. All the group members are from the city of Valparaíso.

In the group photo above, Juana is seated on the far right in the first row. She has long brown hair, and is wearing a brown striped sweater with an orange scarf, black pants and brown boots.

Juana makes a living selling toys and a variety of products at regional markets and bazaars. She works at a certain fair on Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday of each week selling products to her customers. She purchases her merchandise from various importers and retailers in the city of Santiago at a relatively low cost, which is crucial to her successful resale of the merchandise.

With the support from this loan, Juana plans to purchase additional merchandise to stock her business, including: bubbles, baby clothing, remote control cars, and other children’s games and products.

One of Juana’s future goals is to grow and strengthen her business and to continue increasing the variety of products she offers to her customers. Since summer is approaching, Juana hopes this investment will help her to prepare for that busier season and will increase her profits and quality of life.

Juana lives with her son, who is 17 years old and is in school. Another of Juana’s dreams is to acquire her own vehicle for transporting merchandise to and from the markets and fairs where she works. With regard to her family, Juana’s goals include supporting her son through all his schooling, and giving him a future full of professional opportunities.

Juana is grateful for this opportunity from Fondo Esperanza which will allow her to invest in her business. She enjoys being a member of the Community Bank, as she has learned important communication skills, marketing strategies and accounting principles through her involvement in the group.

Valparaíso is located 120 kilometers to the northeast of Santiago, and is the regional capital as well as the legislative seat for the country.
