A loan of $6,000 helped a member to increase his stock of goods by buying more agricultural inputs to resell at profit.


Hekima Baco Group's story

Bijoux, age 42 and married, was elected as the president of the community bank named “Hekima BACO”. This group consists of 19 members united in solidarity to receive loans from Kiva through IMF HOPE RDC with the goal of developing their businesses.

Bijoux sells agricultural inputs at the market located southwest of Lubumbashi. He started his business in 1996. Bijoux is happy right now, as he is going to be able to to increase his stock of goods by buying more agricultural inputs with this loan. He will have a greater range of stock and be able to meet his customers' demands. He makes a profit of US $50 per week. With the money he earns, he hopes to provide financial support for his family. His dream is to someday start a farm. Bijoux is the father of six children between the ages of 5 and 11 years old. Four of them go to school.
