Abu Bakar S.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone, is pleased to present to you this group of teachers from one of the primary schools in Kenema, a city in Eastern Sierra Leone. Teachers from this school have come to SMT for a loan of 13,000,000 Sierra Leonean leones in order to improve their standard of living. Some of them will use this loan to buy house building materials; some to buy pieces of furniture; others to pay school fees for their children and so on. At the end of each month, the school’s bursar is directly responsible to deduct their repayment amount and pays SMT/Kiva. Sahr is the leader of this group of teachers. Sahr, age 35, was born in Kailahun town in Eastern Sierra Leone. He is a teacher and has been in the teaching profession for 35 years now. Sahr is married to a teacher and they have four children: two in primary school, one in secondary school, and one not of school-going age. Sahr has requested this loan in order to pay school fees for his children.
