A loan of $400 helped a member to buy fertilizer for her farm.

Chhoen's Group's story

Chhoen is a resident of a rural village in the Thmor Koul district of Battambang province, Cambodia. She is 49 years old and married with one son. She has earned a living through farming rice on four-hectares of farmland for 33 years. She is able to earn about 20,000 KHR per day and save around 10,000 KHR each day after offsetting daily expenses. The shortage of water for her paddy is the main challenge. Chhoen has been with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, for two cycles and successfully paid back her loans. The other members have been with VisionFund for one or two cycles. She has wisely used the past loans to better support her family with sufficient food. Now, she is leading her group of three to request a loan. Chhoen is going to use her portion to buy fertilizer for her farmland. She hopes her crop yield will become more profitable and productive in order to improve her family's rural living conditions..
