Verginia of Gapasan, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, has been raising pigs for more than three years and earns 3,500 Philippines pesos (PHP) per month. She’s 51 years old now, yet continues to hang on with her piggery livelihood to make an adequate life for her child.
She's been a member of GDMPC since 2009. In order to enhance her livestock upon selling, she borrowed the amount of 5,000 PHP from GDMPC microcredit to purchase feeding supplies. Verginia hopes that someday, her child will be successful in a career.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
