Gema Monserrate's story

In the Calderon parish of Portoviejo city, every 15 days the "Pimpiguasi En Progreso" Communal Bank members meet. This place is known for its delicious cuisine and its vegetation, most of its people work in agriculture and general commerce.

Gema is 22 years old, she is single, lives with her parents, and is going to school to become a Medical Technologist. She has been a member of the Communal Bank from its beginning and thanks to its loans, she has been able to get ahead with her business that helps her afford her studies. She is a good student and works very hard to earn her degree.

Her small business is an ice cream shop that she runs from her home. She sells national brand ice creams, and mobile phone credit for several carries that supplements her income. She works every day, mostly in the afternoons because she studies in the morning. Her mother takes care of the business during the morning. She has run this business for 2 years, and it has helped her get ahead. She plans to use this loan to purchase more ice cream, and pre-paid mobile phone credit.

Her dream is to finish her studies, and become a great professional woman.
