A loan of $1,500 helped to purchase food items.

Carmen Auxiliadora's story

In the Calderon parish of Portoviejo city, every 15 days the "Pimpiguasi En Progreso" Communal Bank members meet. This place is known for its delicious cuisine and its vegetation, most of its people work in agriculture and general commerce. Carmen is 33 years old, and a single mother of four children: 15, 13, 11, and 4 years old. The oldest three go to high school. In order to get ahead as a single mother, Carmen has been working at a local school cafeteria for 2 years. She prepares and sells a variety of nutritional food for the kids. Her menu includes Corviches (croaker ceviche), plantain empanadas, ceviches, and other items that she rotates because kids enjoy the variety. She also sells natural fruit juices that the kids love, and this makes her happy. She plans to use this loan to purchase food items for the preparation of her meals. She has participated in the Communal Bank for four cycles, and she appreciates the help they provide even though she is a single mother. Her dream is to provide her kids with a good education.
