A loan of $1,000 helped to buy dyes, hair treatments, nail polish, and Avon and Yanbal products.

Alexandra Esther's story

The 1 De Agosto communal bank meets every two weeks in the Montecristi canton. This canton is known for its rich pre-colonial culture and its handicrafts, which are recognized nationally and internationally. It is the places of the famous straw hats.

Alexandra, age 34, is married and has three children, ages 12, 8, and 4. The oldest goes to secondary school, and the next one goes to elementary school. Her husband is a security guard.

Some time ago she studied cosmetology in a school in Montecristi and earned her license.

She has a beauty salon in her house where she performs a number of treatments, including dyes, cuts, and manicures, among others. She also sells beauty products by Esika, Lebel, Yanbal, and Avon (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume, and women’s accessories) in addition to carrying out her aesthetic work. She works from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. or even later if her clients need her services.

She's had her business more than 9 years, and it's going quite well.

Alexandra will use this loan to buy dyes, hair treatments, nail polish, and Avon and Yanbal products. She is a founding member of the communal bank, and she likes it because of the loans that are granted.

Her dream is to have a large beauty salon in Manta.
