A loan of $1,000 helped to buy inventory.

Diana Beatriz's story

The Montecristi communal bank meets every two weeks in the Montecristi settlement, an area known for its rich pre-colonial culture and art, both nationally and internationally; the place for its famous straw hats.

Diana is 44 years old, married and has a 20 year old daughter. Despite being engaged, she still lives at home. Her husband is a merchant.

Diana is a teacher at a local school, but is also sells Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, and ladies’ accessories). She sells door to door in the evenings and weekends, but also sells to her coworkers and mothers who visit the campus. She sells on credit and collects every two weeks. She’s been doing this for four years and its going well.

She will use the money from this loan to buy perfumes, creams, and cosmetics. She’s been with the communal bank for four years and likes it because her first loan helped her start her business.

Her dream is to be hired by the state; she is currently a contractor.
