A loan of $1,400 helped to replant, fertilize and provide crop maintenance.

Tomás's story

Tomás, 64, lives in his own house. He studied up to second grade in elementary school. With the death of his father when he was only nine-years-old, his paternal grandfather taught him everything related to coffee growing and production. As time passed he wanted to make progress, so he acquired some parcels of land and the rest were inherited from his grandfather. He’s been a coffee grower for years and he knows that in order for production to increase he must replant, fertilize and provide crop maintenance clearing weeds and pruning which is why he’s requesting a loan to do these crop maintenance tasks thus increasing his land's productivity.

Tomás has another occupation besides coffee growing: he sometimes works for others earning extra income in addition to what he earns growing coffee. For Tomás, it’s very important to grow as a producer and increase his crop yields because everything he does now will be his children’s and grandchildren’s inheritance. His greatest wish is to be able to buy more land and to build a bigger house.
