John's story

John is 42 years old and lives in the town of Maganjo in the Luwero region of Uganda. He is married and has 5 children with 1 of them currently in school. For the past 7 years, John has been working hard to manage his restaurant, which sells cooked food.

To help expand his business, John has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more chairs, one new fridge, and plates and cups for the restaurant. It will help John to generate greater profits and improve on his income benefits. John hopes that in the future he will be able to build rental houses.

John is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like John who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
