A loan of $3,000 helped a member to buy cattle.

Bellavista (Cuenca) Group's story

The Bellavista community bank is made up of seven women and one man who are friends and neighbors. They live in a community in Victoria del Portete parish, in Cuenca. This area has vast plains and beautiful landscapes. It has a cold climate. The local people work in cattle farming, livestock raising and agriculture. Many work in the city in different jobs. They are noted for keeping alive the culture and traditions of their ancestors. One of the members of this group is Ligia. Ligia is 24 years old, married, and has two children who are 4 and 2 years old. Her husband works for a private company. They do not own the house in which they live. Ligia spends most of her time caring for her children who are still young. As she has land available, she has been raising cattle for four years. She take cares of her cows from Sunday to Sunday. She does not work fixed hours and sells the milk in her community. Ligia will invest her loan in buying more cattle so that she can continue expanding her business. Ligia's goal is to get a job working for a financial company so that she will have two incomes and be able to help a little more in improving her family's financial situation.
