A loan of $1,100 helped a member to buy fertilizer for her crop.

Sal's Group's story

As a mother of three children who are too young for schooling, Sal needs to maintain her household via growing rice on her three hectares of farmland and planting pineapple on a half-hectare area. She has been with this business for 12 years.

As her crop depends mainly on rainfall, sometimes she has received only minimal harvest when there is not enough rain. Sal's past loan with Vision Fund (Kiva's partner) was the first loan, which has supported her business and which she has paid back already.

Now she is in a group of four members. She and one of her fellow group members are in second-cycle loans, requesting 1,200,000 KHR each, while the other two borrowers are in first-cycle loans, applying for 1,000,000 KHR each.

As the group leader, she will use her portion to buy fertilizer for her crops. She truly believes that she will receive a higher yield than before and earn more profit.
