A loan of $700 helped a member to buy spices for her food-selling business.

Heang's Group's story

Heang is 60 years old and a resident from a rural area of the Moung Russey district of Battambang province, Cambodia. She is a widowed mother. To make a living, she has been selling various kinds of food for twenty years. She is able to earn about 20,000 KHR per day and manages to save around 10,000 KHR each day after offsetting daily expenses. Lack of working capital for supporting the current business is the main challenge.

Heang has been with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, for five loan cycles while the other member has been with VisionFund for three loan cycles. The past loans, which she has fully paid back, have helped her to improve her living conditions gradually. Now she and her group member are requesting a loan of 1,400,000 KHR each. As the leader, she is going to use her portion to buy spices for her food-selling business. She hopes this loan will enable her to increase her income from the current business in order to better her lifestyle.
