Jose Manuel's story

Jose is a 53-year-old man married to Maria, 54, he finished elementary school and lives in Otavalo in a house in the province of Imbabura, located in the North of Ecuador, where most if its inhabitants are indigenous people and is a rich town in the country where a large amount of crafts are made and exported and have international demand.
Tourism is an important source of income because they are visited by nationals and foreigners due to it's attractive touristic centers in the city such as the architectural streets and waterfalls and rivers that are outside the city. The celebrations and gastronomy are very popular, because they are traditional of their people where visitors from around the world are welcome.
Jose grows strawberry to sell, he has worked in this activity for six years and spends up to 12 hours on it per day. He learned this business from the workers association that performs the same activity with other fruits and crops, Jose belongs to this association. He requested a loan to Fundacion Alternativa to increase his planted land for which he needs products such as plastic, organic fertilizer, chemicals and others, with this expansion his income will be higher and he'll be able to provide a better lifestyle to his wife.
