A loan of $600 helped to service her washing machines and to buy detergent..

Carmen's story

Carman, 34, lives with Sajid; they have two children who are 10 and 6 years old. This family lives in a house of their own that they acquired with much effort. Carmen is a sweet woman. She provides laundry services in her establishment that’s been in operation 12 years. She works Monday to Saturday and people come by every day to leave their clothes to be laundered. “Clothes get dirty every day so there’s always work to be done and I do very well,” she comments humorously. When she opened the business she had only one machine, now she has three including a new one that allows her to do “dry cleaning.” She had to hire someone to help her do the work.

Because the washing machines are in constant use, they need maintenance in regular intervals which is why Carmen is asking for help to carry out this task. This is her third MFP loan and she commits to make her installment payments punctually. She’s happy with the way of working and with her fellow members in the “Los Pioneros de Capelo” communal bank because they are very sociable.

She will use the money to pay to have her washing machines serviced. She will spend about 1,000 soles on that and will use the rest to buy detergent and other supplies.
