Thy's Group's story

Thy is a 59-year-old resident in a rural area of the Ratanak Mondul district of Battambang province, Cambodia. She is a widowed mother of six children. As a widow, she has struggled to feed the family by growing rice on one hectare of farmland for 33 years. She is able to earn about 20,000 KHR per day and manages to save about 10,000 KHR each day for tuture needs. Drought is the main challenge for her paddy business. Thy has been with Kiva’s partner, VisoinFund, for two cycles and completely repaid the past loans while the other members have been with VisionFund from one to two cycles. She has successfully used the past loans to relieve her family’s burden. Now, she is leading her group to ask for a loan. Thy will use part of her loan portion to buy fertilizer and pesticide for her farmland and another portion to pay labor fees. She hopes her crop yield will become more productive so as fulfill her dream to buy plots of farmland for expanding the rice paddy and improve her living conditions.
