Loans from KosInvest to the Roma Community in Kosovo have helped to improve their lives and businesses. They have provided the opportunity to improve their various businesses and create working environments and improve their living conditions.

Among the people who have benefited are Nexhat and his family. Nexhat is 23 years old. He is married and has two children ranging in age from 2 to 1 year old. The family's main source of income comes from Nexhat, who works as a woodcutter in his area. The money he generates is not enough to pay for the renovation of his home.

His house has not had any repairs or renovation in the past several years. It needs immediate renovation for windows and doors. Nexhat asked for a loan to renovate the windows and doors. This loan will help him to keep his house warm during the wintertime, which is very beneficiary for him. He hopes in this way to improve the conditions for his family.

He is very happy for this opportunity!

More information about this loan

This loan will support the economic aspirations of minority people in Kosovo. Roma people and ethnic Serbians have historically faced a tremendous amount of hardship in Kosovo, and are still socioeconomically and politically vulnerable. During the 1998-1999 war, the fighting displaced 250,000 people. Among those displaced were an estimated 80-90% of the region’s Roma population. Today, Roma and ethnic Serbians living in Kosovo still face discrimination and are excluded from many aspects of society, including fair political representation and high rates of unemployment. By supporting this loan you are helping provide opportunity to marginalized populations.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
