A loan of $1,800 helped a member to buy fertilizer for her farmland.

Chanty's Group's story

Chanty, 49, lives in a rural area of Sampov Meas district of Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. She has seven children, three of whom are dependent on her and some of whom are still in school. The main source of her family’s income is from rice farming on a four-hectare area of farmland--a business she has been in for almost thirty years. The current business earns her about 30,000KHR per day and she manages to save about 20,000KHR each day after daily expenses. Drought is the main challenge for her rice paddy business.

Chanty has been with VisionFund for five cycles and has completely repaid the past loans which have helped her relieve her family’s burden and improve their livelihoods. Now leading her group of six members to apply for a loan, Chanty will use her portion of the loan to buy fertilizer for her farmland and to buy gasoline for water pumping. She hopes to grow her rice fruitfully and healthfully and also wants to raise pigs in order to help the family generate extra income.
