A loan of $1,200 helped a member to buy a plot of farmland for growing rice.

Rorn's Group's story

Originally from the rural area of the Tbaung Khmum district of Kampong Cham province, Cambodia, Rorn is a 36-year-old married mother of three children, all of whom are dependent on her and too young for school. To support the family, she has worked in a rubber field for a fee for several years. She can earn about 6,000 KHR per day and save about 2,000 KHR each day after offsetting daily expenses.

Rorn’s group consists of four members who live in the same village and this is the second microloan for Rorn’s group with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. She successfully paid back the past loan which has helped her to relieve her family’s burden. Now she and her group members are applying for a loan of 1,200,000 KHR each. As the leader, she is going to use her portion to buy a plot of farmland for growing rice. She hopes this loan will enable her to increase and grow her rice successfully so as to improve her family’s standard of living and so she can send her children to school.
