Progress Group's story

Meet the members of the “Progress” group from Koidu, a city in Eastern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a loan of 500,000.00 Sierra Leonean Leones each. With the help of this loan they will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales and consequently improve their living conditions. Mabel is the leader of this group. The 39-year-old is married to a teacher and they have 4 school-going children. Mabel has been a businesswoman for 5 years now; she sells cloth, ready-to-wears, etc. With her share of this loan, she will buy the above mentioned items in wholesale to add to her current stock.
