Shabana's Group
In this Group: Shabana, Sardar, Tasleem
Shabana is a 40-year-old, hardworking housewife. She lives in Punjab, Pakistan, with her husband and 2 sons. Since 2011, her husband has had been driving his own taxi, which is the only source of income for the family. However, he is not able to generate any income from the taxi, as its engine is not working properly and needs to be repaired. Shabana, as a member of a three-person lending group, has requested a loan from Kiva partner, BRAC Pakistan, to help her husband to repair the engine of his taxi, so that he can continue his business. With the profit, at first she will pay back the loan amount to Kiva, and then she will make some savings for her children's future. She hopes for a better future for her family.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
