A loan of $500 helped a member to buy fertilizer and to pay for the cost of labor on her farmland.

Lim's Group's story

Lim, 30, is married with two daughters, both of whom are dependent on her and still in school. Her family lives in a rural area of the Ou Reang Ov district of Kampong Cham province. To support the family, she has been farming rice on one-hectare of farmland for eighteen years and supplementing the income by working as a paid worker in the local area. The current business earns her approximately 15,000 KHR per day and she manages to save about 7,000 KHR each day after deducting daily expenses. The low price of her crop yield is the main challenge for her business. Lim’s group consists of two female members who are both first-cycle clients with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. Both of them are requesting the same loan amount of 1,000,000 KHR. As the leader, she is going to use her portion to buy fertilizer for her farmland and use a portion of it to pay for labor fees. She hopes this loan will enable her to grow her rice in a timely and fruitful manner so she will be able to sell it for a high price. This will allow her to make a better living and also to fulfill her dream of expanding her current business.
