Martha's story

Martha lives in the Malindi area of Coast province, Kenya. She is married and has two children, one who is in school. She is a green grocer and has been operating her store for three years, selling goods including fruit and vegetables, flour and cooking oil.

Martha learnt about Milango through a friend and joined with the aim of accessing credit to improve her business operations. The challenges she is facing are price fluctuations and inflation, the costs of purchasing stock and the seasonal nature of her business. She is applying for a loan of 41,900 Kenyan shillings (KES) to buy more vegetables wholesale. The extra income she generates from the loan will be added to her savings to expand the business. Martha's plans for the future are to start a clothes shop.
