La Propuesta (Cuenca) Group's story

The 'La Propuesta' community bank has 7 hard-working female members who are all friends and neighbors. They live in Victoria del Portete parish in Cuenca. This area has vast plains which are ideal for raising livestock. The climate is cold. The local people are known for keeping alive the flame of their traditions and culture. The local cuisine is typical of the area. The members of this group maintain these traditions and are very proud to keep them. They are friendly, cheerful, charming people who work daily to improve their household finances and provide for their families.

One of the members of this group is Olga who is requesting her second loan through the La Propuesta community bank. She is a 29-year-old married woman who has three children aged 9, 7 and 5. Her children are all attending a school in the town. Her husband works in construction as a builder. They do not own their own home but live independently in her parents' house.

Olga has land where she raises cattle and sells milk. She also raises chickens and pigs which she sells in her community. She grows crops for her own family's consumption. In her free time, Olga knits sweaters and hats, especially for her children or for a friend or neighbor who might ask her. She learned this activity through practice.

Olga will invest her loan in buying chickens so that she can grow in her business. She will also buy feed for all her animals. Her dream is to own her own home where she can live with her family.

In this group: Maida Maribel, Flora Asucena, Olga Marilu, Rosa Guillermina, Bertha Orfelia, María Manuela, Hilda Josefina
