A loan of $1,900 helped a member to buy chickens.

Conchan (Cuenca) Group's story

The Conchan community bank has seven female members who live in Conchan community, in El Valle parish, in Cuenca. This area has beautiful landscape and its architecture is a mixture of old and modern. The local people still maintain the culture and tradition of their parents. They are known to be kind and friendly people. The members of this community bank are always fighting to improve their household income and provide for their children.

One of the members of this group is Rosa Ubaldina. Rosa is 29 years old, married, and has two children aged 8 and 4 from her marriage. Her eldest son attends an elementary school in the town and her youngest is in pre-school. Her husband works in a carpenter's workshop. They do not own their own home but live in her in-laws' house, sharing the household expenses.

Rosa Ubaldina works from Monday to Fridays, cleaning houses. The good thing about her work is that she works half days which allows her to care for her family. At home she raises chickens which she sells in her community either skinned or alive. She will invest her loan in buying more chickens to expand her business. Her biggest dream is to own her own home.

In this group: Carmen Margarita, Rosa Ubaldina, Gladis Patricia, Rosa Elvira, Narcisa Rocio, Martha Cecilia, Piedad Amalia
