A loan of $475 helped to buy plastic bags in different sizes and qualities.

Celfita's story

Celfita, 45, is a hard-working, good mother who sacrifies everything for her three children, ages 12, 8 and 4, and educates and feeds on her own, as she is a single mother. She and her children live with her parents and a brother who also has his family living there.

Celfita is a street vendor and sells bags. Every day she gets up early and goes to the market to offer bags to shoppers. She works in the markets closest to her home or in the crowded streets where there are many customers. She is very loved because of her charisma and good customer service. She has been in this business for nine years and works alone since the children are still in school, even though they do help her sometimes. What she likes about her work is that she has free time, is independent and can do other things. She knows that her work is the only income for the family, so she must get ahead despite any adversity. Fortunately, she has fixed customers that she has gained over time so she earns a good profit. She wants to continue progressing economically to give her family a better lifestyle. She would also like to have her own stall to make her sales more formal.

This is her fourth loan through MFP, so she is grateful to the people who are giving her this opportunity for financial help, because this gives her the confidence to advance in her work. She is committed to paying back the loan on time because this makes her feel more at ease and supported by the members of her communal bank. With the 1200 PEN she is requesting, she will buy more plastic bags and continue selling them to the customers who are requesting different sizes and qualities.
