Alexander Jose
Alexander has been selling used clothes for 10 years. He’s married and has a five-year-old daughter. He started the business with his mother who now sells in the departments. He sells to a neighbor at a fair price and they support each other with their sales. His main buyers are residents of various neighborhoods in the capital; he and his wife take them the merchandise to their houses. Thanks to this business they are able to cover all necessary household expenses.

Alexander is applying for his first Afodenic and Kiva loan to erect a perimeter wall at home to have more security for his home and family. To do so, he needs to buy building materials and supplies like rebar, sand, 300 paving stones and 25 sacks of cement to add to the materials he already has. All of this is in order to do the project and improve his home. His plan is to continue building until his house is completely done.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
