A loan of $475 helped a member to buy fertilizer for her farmland.

Saren's Group's story

A citizen from a rural village of the Kror Kor district of Pursat province, Cambodia, Saren is a 38-year-old mother of four children, three of whom are dependent on her. Some are in school and some help the family’s business. She has farmed rice on a 1.5 hectare area of farmland for eighteen years and complemented her family’s income by selling grocery items. She can earn around 20,000 KHR per day and save about 10,000 KHR each day after offsetting daily expenses. The main challenge for her paddy-field is drought, which lowers her yield.

This is the first loan for Saren’s group with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. She is now leading her group of four to apply for a loan. As the leader, Saren, will use her portion to buy fertilizer for her farmland and use a portion of it to spend on buying grocery items to sell. She hopes to plant her rice fruitfully and healthfully so as to increase her income in order to improve her lifestyle.
