A loan of $1,000 helped to buy ceramic.

Ivan Ignacio's story

The “La Pila” communal bank meets every two weeks in the town of Montecristi. This area is very well known in the province and in the country for its rich traditional culture and a great variety of art, made in the traditional way, can be found here.

Ivan is 29 years old, married, and has an eight month old son. His wife is an artist and a merchant.

He is an artist and makes all sorts of ceramics along with his wife. They display them in their shop after putting the finishing touches on them. Their shop is on a main street where there are many people who do this kind of business. He works daily from 8:00am to 5:00pm. His wife makes sales while he creates pieces. She also helps him in the evenings. They have been doing this for more than 12 years and things are going well for them.

He will use the money from this loan to buy ceramic to create more works. This will be the third cycle in the communal bank and he likes it because the interest rates are lower than in other lending institutions.

His dream is to have a shop of his own. The one he has now belongs to his father.
