A loan of $1,000 helped to buy rice, meat, fish and other foodstuffs.

Idalia Margarita's story

The “La Pila” (The Water Basin) communal bank meets in La Pila in Montecristi Canton. This place is very well-known in the province and in the country for being a place rich in tradition. A great variety of crafts that are made by the inhabitants following traditional customs can be found here. Idalia, 52, is married and has two adult children; her daughter still lives with her and her husband works in agriculture.

Idalia has a small eatery at home where she prepares delicious dishes. She works Monday to Saturday from 6am until 3pm since she only prepares breakfast and lunch. She works alone; she’s always done well because hundreds of people pass by her house daily on their way to other cities and because she always prepares different dishes for all tastes. She’s been in business ten years and it makes it possible for her to get ahead.

She will use this loan to buy rice, meat, fish and other foodstuffs to prepare the food. She’s been in the communal bank for four years and likes it because the loans are very useful for her to be able to stay in business. Her dream is to continue forward and that the business improves still more.
