Confidence Group's story

Meet the members of the “Confidence” group from Koidu, a city in Eastern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a loan of 500,000.00 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) for each in the group. With the help of this loan, they will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales and, consequently, improve their living conditions.

Mariama is the leader of this group. The 27-year-old is married to a trader, and they have two children. Mariama has been a businesswoman for five years; she sells market food -- rice, onions, pepper, palm oil (the country's most poplar cooking oil), salt, etc. Mariama has applied for this loan in order to buy a large quantity of rice, onions, pepper, palm oil, salt, etc., to add to her current stock.
