Cruz María's story

The Mujeres De Lucha Communal Bank meets every 15 days in the Picoaza parish in the city of Portoviejo. This area is known for a being very commercial, for its traditional San Pedro and San Pablo festivals and the people's happiness.

Here Cruz lives, who is 70 years old. Her husband passed away many years ago but from this relationship she has ten children who are now grown and independent. She lives with a daughter and three grandchildren who are her main reason for living.

Cruz has a small locale in the city of Portoviejo in which she sells dressings, spices, toothpaste and toilet paper, among many other items. Here in this area there is always a great number of people that come to make their daily purchases. She works everyday from 6:00am until 6:00pm. She has been doing this work for 15 years and has been able to move her children forward after the death of her beloved husband.

This loan is to buy dressings, detergents, toothpaste and other items. She hs been in this Communal Bank since the beginning and she likes it because the loans have helped her out of many economic troubles.

Her dream is to have a grocery store so that she does not have to leave her house to sell.
