A loan of $675 helped to increase his production of concrete blocks.

Rafael's story

Rafael, 62, is married to María, who is 61, and they have a son who lives independently. They live in a neighborhood called El Calvario on one of the hills of Latacunga. Latacunga, a city with a cold climate, is the capital of Cotopaxi which is an important province in the Ecuadorean mountain range. It has several tourist attractions which make it a beautiful, welcoming city. The neighborhood of El Calvario is a place with an interesting view of the city, especially of the Cotopaxi Volcano, and is a place of recreation for many of the city's inhabitants.

This hard-working man began his concrete block business 12 years ago, and also works as a bricklayer in many homes in the area. He learned his trade several years ago and believes mixing the material is a very difficult job, but worth it because it provides enough income to live and save for when he and his are older. The loan will be used to buy materials to make blocks and continue with production.
