Consuelo Margarita's story

The 30 de Agosto community bank meet in Picoaza parish, in the city of Portoviejo. This area is known for its commerce, for its traditional San Pedro and San Pablo celebrations and for the cheerfulness of its people.

This is where Consuelo lives. Consuelo is 43 years old, married, and has a 12-year-old son who is in school. Her husband is a salesman.

Consuelo is a very good wife who, in order to help her husband, is taking out a loan for him to use in his business. He sells home products such as irons, plates, pans, blenders, etc. He travels every day to other towns, especially to the rural areas where he makes most of his sales. He sells on credit and collects payment once a week. He has been in this type of business for more than 20 years and it has allowed him to provide for his family.

Consuelo's husband will use this loan to buy irons, blenders, pans, plates and other products that he sells. Consuelo has been a member of her community bank since the beginning and she likes it because the loans enable her to help her husband. Her dream is to own premises in the city center so that her husband doesn't have to go out to sell his products because it is tiring and sometimes dangerous.
