Angela Ramona's story

The 30 de Agosto community bank meet in Picoaza parish, in the city of Portoviejo. This area is known for its commerce, for its traditional San Pedro and San Pablo celebrations and for the cheerfulness of its people.

This is where Angela lives. Angela is 51 years old and lives with her common-law husband. She has four adult children from her relationship. One of her daughters still lives at home along with 4 granddaughters who are attending school. Her husband is a salesman.

Angela has a business selling grilled chicken. She rents premises in the center of Picoaza and works there every day. She has most customers in the afternoons and evenings. As well as selling her grilled chickens, she also sells 'aguado de menudencias' (a traditional chicken and rice stew) which her customers really enjoy, drinks, juice and soda. Her daughter helps her in her work. Angela has been in this business for more than 10 years and it has allowed her to make progress in life.

Angela will use this loan to buy soda, juice, chickens and other supplies she needs to prepare her food. She has been a member of her community bank from the beginning and she likes it because the group is very united and trustworthy.

Angela's dream is to own her own premises because she spends a large part of her profits on paying rent.
