A loan of $325 helped to buy soft-drinks and milk.

Melvi's story

Melvi, 62, is single and her children are all independent now. She lives with her niece in Olanchito, Yoro. Melvi decided to start her own business when she retired from work in a private firm. For the last two years she’s been selling soft-drinks and topogigios (frozen treats made with milk or fruit served in plastic bags); she sells them every day in villages adjacent to her community. This is a product that’s in very high demand. She’s had three loan cycles with ODEF. Her current one is for 6,000 Lempiras that she’s going to use to buy ingredients like soft-drinks and milk for her business to increase sales and income. Her goal is to save up to be able to respond to any unforeseen eventuality.
