Hut's Group's story

Hut, aged 59, is a farmer mainly in growing rice and living in Sangke district of Battambang province. Besides working on his rice farm, which is his main source of income, he also catches fish which he sells to earn an extra income to support his children. He has eight children in total, seven of whom have their own employment whilst the remaining one daughter is a student. He has been in business for 10 years, earning about 31,000 KHR per day and saving about 10,500 KHR per day after offsetting daily expenses.

This is Hut's fifth loan cycle with VisionFund, Kiva's partner. He has smartly used his previous loans with success in order to obtain better living conditions for his family. Now, he is joining a group consisting of three members to take out a new loan. Hut, as group leader, is going to use his loan portion to pay plowing fees and some part of it to buy a small boat to support his fish-catching business. He hopes this loan will enable him to double his income and expand his business so that he can upgrade his lifestyle.
