A loan of $3,500 helped a member to buy a calf.

Nueva Ilusión (Cuenca) Group's story

Nueva Ilusión (New Illusion) is a communal bank that was formed 5 years ago. It is made up of 8 members who are friends and neighbours who live in the vicinity of the parish of Cumbe in Cuenca, a place that has several places to enjoy nature and to leave the routine of the city. Its climate is cold but its people are warm-hearted like our members, who are women of great charisma who face adversity in the best way always thinking about the well-being of their families. Their greatest pride is that they still maintain the culture and traditions of their people.

One of the members of this group is Carmen who has been a member of the communal bank Nueva Ilusión for one and a half years. She is 37 years old, married and is the mother of 2 children ages 16 and 14 who are studying in a school in the city. Her husband works as a builder, work that he learned from his father. The house in which they live in is the fruit of their combined labours.

Carmen works at home taking care of the house and family but to help her husband with household expenses she raises pigs, chickens and guinea pigs which she sells in her community. She also farms and what she produces is consumed in the home.

She is going to invest the loan in the purchase of a calf to raise it and then sell it.

Her goal is to have more animals.
