Susan's Group's story

Susan's group is comprised of 3 hardworking women. Susan is 17 years old and lives in the town of Mukono, in the Mukono region of Uganda. For the past 2 years, she has been working hard to manage her small catering business, selling fast foods such as fried fish, chips and chicken.

To help expand her business, Susan has requested a loan of 400,000 Ugandan Shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more cooking oil and chicken for resale, and will help Susan to generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living. Susan hopes that, in the future, she will be able to build a commercial house.

Susan is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
