A loan of $250 helped a member to buy more shoes to sell.

Milly's Group's story

Milly's group is comprised of two hard working women. Milly is 21 years old and lives in the town of Nansana in the Kampala West region of Uganda. She is married and has one child. For the past year, Milly has been working hard to manage her small business where she sells childrens' shoes.

To help expand her business, Milly has requested a loan of 300,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more shoes to sell and will help Milly to generate greater profits and help the development of her family. Milly hopes that in the future, she will be able to stop renting after buying a plot of land and building on it.

Milly is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
