María Monserrate's story

In the citadel of El Florón, the city of Portoviejo is the capital of Manabí which has been known for many years as the city of the real tamarinds, every two weeks the members of the ‘Rebirth’ Communal Bank get together.

Miss María Monserrate lives in this place, she is 20 years old, single and lives in her parents’ home. She is studying to be a cosmetologist in the University of Portoviejo.

Besides being a good student she has her own income that she uses to help pay for her education and also does beauty consultations and individual makeovers which she uses to practice of what she is studying. María does different types of work like hair dying, makeup, nails, and other jobs. She works everyday and when her customers require her services they call or go to her residence since she works from her home and does house calls as well. María has worked in this field for 5 years and has done very well.

This loan will be used to buy certain beauty tools that she needs for her work like, dyes and makeup. This is her sixth loan cycle with the communal bank and says that she likes it for the ease of getting loans.

Her dreams are to one day have a SPA and to finish her education.
