A loan of $1,200 helped to buy nail enamel, tints, perms, etc.

Cecilia Matilde's story

The members of the "Renacer" communal bank meet every two weeks in the El Florón neighborhood of Portoviejo, capital of Manabí, known for many years as the "City of the Royal Tamarinds."

Cecilia lives here. She is 42 years old, and in a common-law relationship, from which she has three adult children who still live in her home. Two of them attend university. Her husband is a driver. Many years ago, Cecilia learned beautician work and personal grooming in a local academy, and today has a beauty salon in her home, where she does a variety of work such as tints, haircuts, nail-polishing, and other services.

She works every day from 8:00am to 8:00pm, and sometimes later if her customers need her services. She also works at home when her customers need this. In addition, in her shop she sells beauty products and certain items of costume jewelry. She has done this work for for more than 10 years, and it is going very well.

She is going to use this loan to buy nail enamel, tints, perms, costume jewelry, and other items. She has been in the communal bank since the beginning, and likes it because of the help they have given her all this time. Her dream is to move forward in her business.
