Anita's story

Anita is 56 years old and lives in Caloocan, the Philippines. She is married, the mother of several children and works hard to help her family meet everyday expenses. She earns a living by running a variety (or sari-sari) store where she sells groceries, toiletries and beverages to people who live in her community. She buys wholesale and sells retail, and brings in about PHP 600 in sales every day.

Anita is requesting a loan for PHP 10,000 to buy more items to sell to her customers. She expects a boost in her income as she expands her business, and hopes to earn enough money give her children a good, high-quality education. She faithfully meets up with her co-fellowship* members to share stories of her work every week and draw strength and inspiration from her religion.

*All CCT community partners/clients are organized into fellowship groups that meet on a weekly basis. A fellowship group is composed of 15 to 30 community partners who gather to study religion, build social capital, and repay microfinance loans.
