A loan of $1,500 helped to build a covered area for his vehicles and to buy fertilizer.

Manuel De Jesús's story

Manuel, 45, is married and has four children. He has worked in coffee production for 25 years. For five years he has had a truck he uses for himself and to transport other people. He always has done this work, which he learned from his family.

He gets the products he needs in a coffee co-op about 20 minutes from his house. Other times he goes farther, to another city about an hour and twenty minutes away. He transports the products in his truck and stores them in his cellar. Later his employees carry them to the farm on their backs.

He'll use the loan to build a covered area to store his vehicles and to buy 10 sacks of fertilizer. By building this he'll protect his vehicles from the sun and rain, and save in maintenance costs because of the deterioration of paint, seal, etc. In addition, he'll treat his coffee farm with the necessary fertilizer, getting better results all the time.
