A loan of $3,700 helped to pay for new computers, reading materials, and facility improvements.

Oletta's story

Oletta’s grandmother had fourteen children, and with the vast majority of them remaining local in San Diego, it’s no wonder that she grew up with a strong emphasis on family. From a young age, Oletta shared the responsibilities of caring for her younger family members, learning from inspirational people such as her grandmother and parents.

After working for several law firms and local government organizations that focused on serving families and youth, she decided to pursue a career in child care and opened her own day care center. Because of her previous experiences inspecting mismanaged facilities and organizations, Oletta has always emphasized safety, educational enrichment and fair pricing to better service the low-income families in her community.

Now, eleven years after opening her first day care center in her grandmother’s house, her self-determined, entrepreneurial, “no excuses” mentality continues to drive her to better her facility and the lives of the children she spends every day loving and serving. Oletta will use her Kiva loan to make upgrades to her center, as well as purchase computers and reading material for the children. These upgrades will allow her to attract more clients and further enrich the lives of the children she loves.
