Walter Jose
Walter lives in the town of Ticuantepe with his wife, who works as a merchant and so covers the basic household expenses. They have a five-year-old little girl who goes to school.

His desire for the future is to improve his living conditions. Walter has worked for many years as a taxi driver, a boring and slightly dangerous job. His salary isn't enough because he also has household expenses.

This is why he's coming to request a loan to be able to buy sheets of corrugated metal and wood beams to repair the roof of his house. The roof has a lot of holes and when it rains the water comes inside the house and it's very uncomfortable for them to live like this.

He hopes his loan will be approved and he's grateful for the help he's getting.

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
