A loan of $1,200 helped to buy supplies.

Mercedes Maribel's story

The members of the “Desarrollo Femenino” communal bank meet every two weeks in the Calderón parish of the city of Portoviejo. This area is known for its delicious food and for its vegetation. Most of its residents are involved in farming and general business.

Mercedes lives here. She is 44 years old, married, and has three children, ages 17, 14, and 9. The two oldest attend high school and the youngest is in elementary school. Her husband is a commercial mechanic.

She is asking for this loan so that she can help her husband who has a mechanics workshop where he does different things, such as building bodies for all types of cars. He also works with bus bodies and painting. In order to do this, he needs to hire two or three helpers to whom he must also provide lunch. Her husband has been doing this for more than 21 years.

This loan will be used to buy paint, iron, solder, and other supplies needed to do his work. She has been with the communal bank for 10 years and she likes it because the loans have allowed her to help her husband with his work.

Her dreams are to continue moving ahead and that there be no shortage of work.
