A loan of $1,025 helped to buy a boat and nets.

Juan Rogelio's story

Juan is 43 years of age, married, and has four children aged 22, 18, 15 and 12. He works as a fisherman and lives on an island on Lake Titicaca, a tourist center in the department of La Paz. This area is known for bullrush and wool handicrafts, and the majority of the island’s inhabitants work in fishing.

This is Juan’s first loan with this institution, and he plans to use it to buy a larger fishing boat. He sells the fish he catches in the city of La Paz, and with his new boat he wants to increase his output and meet his customers’ requests. Juan faces challenges in his business, such as the wind which can raise high waves which do not allow him to go out fishing.

Juan is a person who wants to get ahead in life. He is happy, and thankful to the microfinance institution for the support given to him, as this is the only source of income he has to provide for his family.
