Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,075 helped to buy sacks and materials in order to be able to recycle.

Cecilia Gertrudes's story

Cecila, age 38, is a single mother. She has a son who goes to public school. Cecilia is considered to be a tenacious woman. She seeks a way to survive in this very difficult life in order to give her son a better life.

She started by doing the business activities of selling food and selling cosmetic products. Her brother gave her the idea of recycling cardboard, paper, and bottles. Little by little she started the recycling business.

This business activity is currently what generates income for her. She will use the loan to buy sacks and materials in order to be able to recycle. This way she will sell the cardboard, paper and bottles more quickly.

Her dream is to build a house on an empty lot in order to get her own property.
